Riding Lessons

We teach English Hunter/Jumper/Centered Riding discipline from basic beginner up to intermediate, basic Western and some Therapeutic riding lessons.   Lessons are either a half-hour or hour.  We like to start out with private lessons and then move the riders into group lessons as they advance their skills.  In the private lessons the students can hone their skills without worrying about others in the ring, while in a group lesson, they can use the others students as visual prompts to see more of what is expected of the skill, or to see and hear a correction for someone else that they can fix before it is mentioned to them.  We work to individualize each each interaction with our riders and work to ensure our riders get what they need from their time at the farm, be it honing a skill, downtime to relax and walk the horse on a "trail ride", or just gaining the confidence that they can do something they didn't think they could.

Riding lessons at Chris Kaelble Riding Instruction LLC., not only teach the skills riders need to be succesful when mounted on the horse but how to prepare the horse and care for it after they ride as well.  All riders learn the basics of grooming (brushing) and tacking up (putting the equipment on) before they ride and the untacking (taking the equipment off afterward) and are expected to do this for every lesson for which they participate.  Learning about how to get take care of the horse before and after riding is considered and important set of skills to Miss Chris and Miss Hope.

When scheduling lessons, plan on adding at least a 1/2 hour onto the time mentioned so that you are able to be there for the whole time. For example: A 1/2 hour lesson means an hour at the barn, as riders get the horse ready before they ride and will take care of it after for most lessons.

When on the horse, students will learn and improve the skills they need to work as a team with the horse, as well as the correct position and aids (cues) that are to be use.

Riding

Disciplines

English

Hunt Seat, Balanced Seat, Jumper

In English style riding, a smaller saddle is used and riders ride with the reins in both hands. There are several different styles of riding English. This would be the style most often seen in the Olympics.

When teaching English we look to give the rider a good seat on the horse and the skills to be able to make good riding decisions for themselves

Western

Western riding uses a larger heavier saddle, legs are longer and reins are usually only held in one hand. Western riding is the style usually seen at rodeos and trail rides.

We teach just basic western riding ro get you comfortable in the saddle on a horse

Therapeutic

Therapeutic riding is an equine assisted activity that can help people in may way. Usually for those with special needs, it helps with cognitive , emotional, and physical, and social needs of the riders. Riders in therapeutic lessons do a lot of stretching, some steering, and other exercises that are beneficial in many ways.

Riding is a team sport with you and your horse in rhythm, and we work to help our riders find that connection. We remind our riders that our horses have minds of their own, and sometimes they don't want what we do so you have to be firm and take control. Our horses are not push button, so you learn to ride each horse and what works to become teammates.
